500,000 check into Wii Sports Resort
Nintendo's MotionPlus pack-in minigame compilation sells half a million in first week on store shelves.
In February of 2007, Nintendo's Wii Play arrived on store shelves packed in with a peripheral--a Wii Remote--and took up long-term residence in the industry tracking NPD Group's monthly Top 10 chart. It has slipped from those lofty heights of late, just in time to make room for Nintendo's newest peripheral pack-in game.
Wii Sports Resort, which comes bundled with the precision-enhancing Wii MotionPlus accessory, is a shoo-in for July's NPD Top 10 figures, as Nintendo today announced that it sold 500,000 copies in its first week on sale. The publisher cited its own internal tracking data for the figure and gave a span from the game's July 26 launch to August 3.
"Through Monday we sold one copy of Wii Sports Resort roughly every 1.5 seconds continuously since it launched in the United States," said Nintendo of America executive VP of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway in a statement.
Wii Sports Resort features a dozen events, including archery, wakeboarding, table tennis, and golf. The game sells for $49.99, while additional MotionPlus add-ons can be purchased for $19.99 each. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's review.
