The 7th Guest is a 1992 puzzle video game then published by Virgin Games. The game was released in April 1992 for DOS, then it’s Cd-I and Mac versions were released in 1994 and then The 7th Guest was finally ported to Windows 95 in 1997. It is also one of the first game to be released on the CD-ROM. The 7th guest was highly acclaimed. We can say that the game has set the trend of video games on PC. The 7th guest has a touch of horror games along with the puzzle touch.

The game is puzzle based. We know by that time not many action-adventure games were known. The 7th Guest is narrated from the player’s perspective whose objective is to solve the puzzles to take the story further. However player is mocked on by the Stauf if the player fails to solve the puzzle. Stauf is an old man who is a simple drifter and a thief. The 7th Guest story revolves around him. The 7th Guest plot is set in the Stauf mansion where all plays the game. While playing game lot of horror watch goes there. So the game is really simple but fairly horror thus making it interesting.

The idea of the The 7th Guest is taken from the Twin Packs. A sequel to the game called The 11th hour was also released after three years. However The 11th Hour didn’t took off like The 7th Guest as was expected by the developers. The 7th Guest was one of the first game to be released on the PC through Windows 95. But The 11th Hour its sequel failed to impact the fans because of late PC release. The 7th guest was the massive hit for the company by registering sales of more than 2 million copies. The 7th Guest sales made hype increase in the sales of CD-ROM too.
